May 2023 Release

We have an exciting update for developers who work with practices on Denticon. We have signed an agreement with Denticon that recognizes the value of the NexHealth Synchronizer™ in powering innovation for Denticon practices.

This month, we’re also rolling out new functionality for developers who work with Open Dental, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft practices. We’re making it possible to read and write appointment notes in those practice management systems so you can power personalized patient experiences and custom workflows. We’ve also released several updates that continue to enhance the speed and reliability of the Synchronizer.

NexHealth and Denticon sign agreement on the Synchronizer

NexHealth connects with practices not based on health record system partnerships, but based on our own proprietary technology called the Synchronizer. We’re proud to announce NexHealth has signed an agreement with Denticon that recognizes the Synchronizer’s value. In addition to Denticon’s own API, NexHealth’s Synchronizer will continue to power innovation for developers working with Denticon practices.

For developers already working with practices on Denticon, our onboarding and support processes will remain the same.

Read and write appointment notes in Open Dental, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft

Every appointment is different, so it’s important to account for appointment context when designing apps for practices and patients. That’s why we’re enabling developers to read and write appointment notes in Open Dental, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft. Developers can power unique in-app experiences and custom workflows based on patient preferences, care instructions, and other rich contextual information that is contained within the practice management system’s appointment notes.

For example, your app could trigger a specific reminder to patients whose upcoming appointment notes indicate they need to confirm their insurance before a procedure. You can also programmatically insert notes when appointments are booked, giving you another way to surface patient information to providers so they can deliver a personalized experience.

We’ll be rolling out this functionality throughout May — no action is required to get access. Appointment notes will appear in the note field on the Appointments object.

Synchronizer quality enhancements

NexHealth Synchronizer

We’re constantly improving the Synchronizer. Here are a few of the enhancements we’ve made over the past month for key practice management systems:

Denticon

  • It’s important to know when appointment cancellations happen so reminder sequences can be updated and patients can be encouraged to reschedule. We’ve enhanced the Synchronizer to detect appointment cancellations more reliably.
  • When a patient’s guarantor is marked as inactive, practices often want to stop sending them marketing campaigns, recalls, and other messages. We’ve updated the inactive field on the Patients object to return true if their guarantor is inactive, so you can let practices easily exclude them from communications.
  • Practices want online appointments and digital forms to sync reliably with Denticon, so they can avoid problems such as double-bookings and wasted time in the office when patients have to fill out paperwork manually. We’ve improved the success rate of appointment and form inserts by addressing configuration issues.

Dentrix

  • When providers are Inactive, practices generally want to exclude them from receiving new appointment requests via online scheduling. We can now read the inactive status on providers correctly, allowing you to return only active providers by filtering for inactive = false on the Providers object.

Eaglesoft

  • We improved the accuracy of detecting holidays in Eaglesoft, so you can help patients avoid scheduling appointments on holidays.

All on-prem systems

  • We’ve accelerated sync speeds by optimizing the data we read from on-prem practice management systems.
  • We’ve improved automatic software updates for the on-prem Synchronizer, so developers can be confident their customers will receive the latest sync functionality without them having to lift a finger.
