Patients

A patients resource

PATCH /patients/{id} is documented only on v3.1.0. It updates a patient and sends the change to the health record system.

These endpoints are on v3.1.0 (beta). Sandbox keys can call it; production keys need access for your organization. See Versioning.

  • The change is queued for the practice's system and patient_update fires when it lands. Which systems take patient updates is still being confirmed; test against the practice's system before you rely on it. See Testing writes, per system.
  • Only the fields you send change. Phone number fields cannot be blanked.
  • A patient the system does not have yet (no foreign_id) returns 422, unless NexHealth is still writing that patient to the system; then the update is accepted and follows the insert.
  • For reading and creating patients, see Patients on v3.0.0. On v3.1.0, POST /patients also writes the patient to the system straight away on Denticon, Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental; elsewhere the patient reaches the system with their first appointment, and the response description says so.
