Adjustment types

Before you start

  • NexHealth reads financial data from the health record system only on request. To turn it on for your API key, email [email protected]. Sandbox locations have it on.
  • Every request needs a bearer token from POST /authenticates. See Authentication.
  • Requests take the practice's subdomain and, for most endpoints, a location_id. See Institutions, syncs, and locations.

Overview

Adjustments change a patient's ledger balance. Each adjustment has a type that explains why the balance changed. Common types include:

  • Insurance write-offs: Discounts based on provider agreements with insurance companies.
  • Late fees: Extra charges for overdue payments.
  • Employee discounts: Reduced fees for employees receiving care.

Each adjustment type also has an action, which defines how it affects the balance:

ActionEffect on balance
debitIncreases the amount the patient owes
creditDecreases the amount the patient owes
unknownThe system does not specify whether it's a debit or credit adjustment

Example use case

  • When you post adjustments to charge patients for subscription fees, add an adjustment type that says what the adjustment is for.
